Free time observations (Poaching)
I have deliberately not added graphic content warning because I want each and every one of you reading this face the reality. Let me present you some facts -
- In 2014, 1215 rhinos were poached in South Africa alone, that's an average 3 per day that is 9300% increase than 2007.
- The illicit wildlife and plant trade is around $70 - $213 billion per year.
- Rhino horn is sold at $60,000 / kg ( 2014 )
- Raw Elephant ivory at $2142 / kg ( 2014 )
- All these items are smuggled into China and other Asian countries where they are used to make folk medicines. Leopard and tiger skin are perevelant.
- This horrendous act is done by either subsistence poachers who just want food so they hunt and eat or by commercial poachers who kill animals to sell their parts.
- Japanese drive hunts kill nearly 20,000 dolphins, porpoises and whales every year.
- During 2014 the Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) reported 23 verified deaths of tigers because of poaching, but 58 due to other, sometimes unknown, causes. They also reported the deaths of 17 leopards due to poaching , however 30 more died that year due to other causes. Also 38 elephants and 41 rhinoceros were poached in 2013.
- In 2012 the ivory confiscated was equivalent to 2500 elephants. African elephant population has dropped from 1.2 million in 1980 to just 420,000 in 2012.
Our greed is the only reason for the existence of this cruel activity. We need to think above money and think about the environment and out mother earth.
Also we are the most bad thing in the world, and we have to become the best one by saving these poor souls.
Try to avoid animal made products as much as you can and help saving lives of millions.
