Free time observations
Just a few days ago I was reading this book named, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen R. Covey and I happened to come across something very interesting.
Have a look at the image below at least for 7 seconds -
Have a proper look at it and get an idea of what the image is about (roughly).
Now, look at this image -
What do you delineate?
That there is an old lady, maybe in her 80s. She has worn a scarf and a cheap woollen sweater. By now you might have imagined that maybe she’s the one who’ll probably ask you for your help to cross the street.
WHAT IF I TELL YOU THAT THE LADY I SEE IN THE IMAGE IS THE ONE I WOULD LIKE TO GO ON A DATE WITH!
Don’t believe me? Read on.
Now, have a proper look at the image below, at least for 15 seconds-
And now again have a look at this-
What do you see now?
A very young lady, probably in her 20s, wearing an attractive and expensive woollen cloth. She is also wearing a choker. You’ll probably imagine that she’s a model.
For those of you, who aren’t with me, just have one more try. The left eye of the old lady is the left ear of the young lady.
What do you learn from this?
Whatever we perceive, whatever we conclude is just a reflection of what we’ve experienced in our lives. We would react to a particular situation by the way we’ve seen it in most of our lives.
E.g. If a couple is making out in public, most of us (Indians) will not like it, because we’ve never been in an environment where we’ve been well exposed to such things.
On the other hand, most of the Americans won’t even bother about them, because they have been in such environments.
On the other hand, most of the Americans won’t even bother about them, because they have been in such environments.
There are numerous such examples.
I’ve read this somewhere, ‘Whatever we perceive is just a reflection of what all we’ve been exposed to till we’re 18 years old.’
So to conclude, whenever you see things, have a look at it from another perspective at least twice.

P.S. - It’s truly a wonderful book and gives you a lot of insight into various things.
