Greek Mythology : NARCO- A story of love and lovelessness.

What happens when two people love the same person? Who did they both love?
Meet our leads.
Narcissus, the son of the river God Cephissus. God by chance, hunter by choice. A stunningly handsome lad. So handsome that he has got the looks of a Greek God :P

Echo, a mountain nymph. A little talkative but a seemingly innocent young lady.
Story within the story: This one time, Zeus, being the player he is, was flirting with the other nymphs while Echo was on watch. Hera, Zeus’ wife suddenly arrives. Now we are all aware of a wife's wrath if she catches her husband flirting with other women. With a good notion of saving Zeus, Echo tries to distract Hera with her endless chatterbox mode. Hera somehow finds out about Echo's deceit and punishes her. Because apparently she can't punish Zeus. Lady's got to vent somewhere. The punishment is that Echo can't ever speak again. Except. Except for repeating the words of someone else. Feeling bad? Already?
Coming to the main story, Echo is now a bored nymph roaming in the woods. That's when she meets our hero Narcissus who is running around chasing a deer. Girl falls in love. It's love at first sight. Who cares if the deer's dead? Guy has got killer looks. She stalks the guy around for a while. She just can't find the right words to express her love. Or words at all, for that matter.
One day, Narcissus loses track of his hunter buddies. He calls out for them. Something like, “Let's get together”. And guess what? Echo repeats that. “Lets get together”. Pretty romantic, huh? Maybe, a little creepy. No wonder Narcissus freaks out. Curtly rejects her. Says he would rather die than be with her. Being nice is not his thing. Sigh! At least he doesn't zone her.
Echo is dejected and heart broken. Refuses to eat anything. Seeks solitude. Grows thinner and thinner until her body vanishes into thin air. She still repeats the words of people in lonely places. That's echo for you guys. Come on, physics is just a myth.
Narcissus goes on a spree of rejecting girls. No one is good enough for him. News reaches Nemesis, the goddess of retribution who decides to punish him. One day, Narcissus feels extremely thirsty. After a long search, he finds a clear pool. He bends over to drink water. That's when he falls in love. With his own reflection. What? Eighteen months old human kids can recognize their own reflection. A Greek God can't? Anyway, Narcissus tries to touch the reflection but it smudges. He waits until the water clears and the reflection appears again. This goes on for a while. Narcissism much? Narcissus finally gets hopeless mourning his plight. He doesn't move, doesn't eat and literally wears off. Strikes a chord? Remember Echo? Heard of karma?
The Gods won't leave him alone though. Someone converts him into a flower that grows near the riverside and bends over as if looking into the water. Still? That's a little overboard. The flower is called Narcissus a.k.a daffodil. Wait, did Wordsworth just admire Narcissus? Ah shucks!
What happens when two people love the same person? Who did they love?
