CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE
CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE
If you have ever been to downtown Tulsa in Oklahoma, you must have come across or probably even witnessed the miracles of what is known as the 'Center of the Universe'.
Those who have seen it will know that it isn't much to look at, but it is something that will blow your mind once you get to know what it does.
Defying all the laws of Physics when it comes to sound and reflection, this specific point has baffled everyone to such an extent that till date, no one has been able to put a finger on the reason for why it does what it does.
The 'Center of the Universe' is a small circle made up of concrete within an even bigger circle made up of 13 bricks. Yes, that's actually it – a small circle of about 30 inches that, combined with the 13-brick outer circle, adds up to 8 feet in diameter.
Its bewildering feature is that if one stands right in the center of the circle and makes a noise, an echo will be reflected back to them. What's so surprising about that, you say? The echo heard is louder than the noise originally made!
Wait, it gets better! Anyone standing outside the circle won't be able to hear anything. It’s only the person standing inside the concrete circle who will hear the echo.
There's more! If you try talking to a person while standing outside the concrete circle, the voice heard will be distorted and unclear.
This facet of the circle has been studied by many people, who have come up with sensible explanations, one of them being that the distortion of the sound is actually a result of parabolic reflectivity of the circular planter walls that partly surround the circle. However, this hasn't been confirmed.
Built in the 80s, some people are of the belief that it is a vortex where all the cosmic energies meet. But, till now, there has been no clear explanation of what's causing the occurrence.
There are videos in YouTube also on this centre of universe…have a look if you are interested :)
