One of the most famous unidentified billionaires

Satoshi Nakamoto - aka the creator of Bitcoin
This person or team is most likely still alive and in hiding, no one knows who he/she/they are. Satoshi Nakamoto is probably not even their real name.
Satoshi first appeared in 2008 when he published on the internet, a paper on Bitcoin. Then in 2009 he released software implementing his idea.
For two years, he actively and remotely worked with others to improve Bitcoin.
Then on April 26th 2011, he suddenly stopped replying to emails and forum posts, and disappeared.

Because of the runaway success of Bitcoin, many suspect he has gone into hiding to avoid the spotlight.
People have attempted to unmask this elusive Satoshi Nakamoto. He himself claims to be a Japanese person born in 1975, but because of his perfect, native speaker style English, this is not likely.
His use of terms such as “bloody hard”, “colour” and “optimise”, suggest perhaps he is from a Commonwealth country.
Using the time stamps of his emails and posts, a Swedish coder concluded, assuming he had normal sleeping patterns, that Satoshi resided in an area of EST (Eastern Standard Time).
Four people have been put forward as possible candidates for Satoshi Nakamoto, but all have either denied it, or have been unable to provide the evidence to confirm it.

Before Satoshi went into hiding, he mined about 1 million Bitcoins for himself.
As of writing, a Bitcoin is worth $USD 13,100 which would give him a networth of around $USD 13 billion.
With Bitcoin becoming increasingly prevalent in modern society, Satoshi is perhaps one of the most famous unidentified billionaires.
No one knows whether Satoshi will ever surface, but at least he won’t have the trouble of relatives asking for handouts.
