Free Time Observations

  1. A recent survey says that Mumbai is the wealthiest city in India with a whopping wealth of $820 billion. According to the latest New World Wealth report, India's financial capital is home to 46,000 millionaires and 28 billionaires. But can you believe that around 62% of total Mumbai population lives in the ghettos or slum like areas. India’s most cash rich city hasn't able to build the proper infrastructure for its poor people.
Bandra-Kurla complex in Mumbai.
Dharavi slum in Mumbai.
You can see the difference as depicted in the above pics.
2. In continuation to the 1st point, A recent study, released by rights group Oxfam ahead of the World Economic Forum (WEF)annual meeting(17–20 Jan 2017) attended by rich and powerful from across the world, showed that India’s richest one percent now hold a huge 58% of the country’s total wealth(2nd only after Russia) - higher than the global figure of about 50% and just 57 billionaires in India now have same wealth ($216 billion) as that of the bottom 70% population of the country.
Isn’t it a sign of growing income inequality in Indian society. Rich are getting richer and poor are becoming poorer day by day.
Isn't it a strange irony altogether.
3. We call our beloved nation the largest democracy and perhaps the most mature democracy in the world(after the USA) but take a look at our elected representatives, considered as the pillar of the democracy.
Around 186(around 34% of total seats in LS 543) in the 16th LS(Lower house) MPs have confessed in their election affidavits that they have criminal cases against them.
Here in India, 8th pass is the minimum qualification to become peon, but even an uneducated can run a state or become the CM of the state(Rabri Devi in Bihar).
4. The apex court of India in one of its recent rulings, ruled that “religion, race, caste, community or language would not be allowed to play any role in the electoral process”. But look what are they doing, our so called beloved leaders.
Mayawati, one of the prominent leader from UP went ahead and flouted the SC’s ruling and warned the Muslim electors in UP against voting for the Samajwadi Party(another major political party in UP headed by current CM Akhilesh Yadav) as there votes will not only go waste but directly benefit BJP. And issued a statement like this “If you vote for Samajwadi Party, not only your vote will go waste but may directly benefit the BJP. You should vote en masse for BSP and not SP”, which is a clear violation of SC’s ruling.
5. Recently the apex court of India has rejected a PIL(public interest litigation) seeking investigation into the killings of Kashmiri pundits in the state of Jammu and Kashmir by the Muslim fanatics ably supported by the separatists in 1989–90, citing that it is difficult to have any probe and collect evidence on the issue after 27 years of the exodus of the pundit community,
But the same supreme court of India is seeking concrete evidence regarding the existence of the Rama temple at Ayodhya even though the temple was destroyed around 400 years ago.
6. Article 25 of Indian Constitution empowers every Indian citizen with “Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion”
It means every single Indian citizen can practice and propagate their own religion.
But here in India, if you are a staunch supporter of Hinduism and do talk about your religion, you will be termed as a RSS Bhakt(devotee) or a narrow minded supporting the Hindu fanaticism or some times even a Hindu terrorist.
And if you are a follower of Islam or supporting the Indian Muslim’s interests(Most of the times to appease them), you will be termed as if you are safeguarding their right to practice and propagate the religion.
Why this dual approach to deal with the two different community? Why cant we talk about the equality(without appeasing anyone)?
Isn’t it ironical?
